Kettle Falls Downtown Park. These parcels are located on Meyers Street in the center of Kettle Falls, with the parcel on the east side of Meyers Street jointly owned by the City and the School District. The pool was built in 1960 and renovated from 1987-1989. The renovation included new piping, new filtration unit, new lining in the pool and a block-built bathhouse and public restrooms. The site also includes swings, merry-go-round and picnic area.

Planned improvements for 2004-2005 include:

Expansion of Park Property to include the old Lindquist Property that the City recently acquired. The property was once a retail business that was destroyed by fire. The City purchased the property and now includes it in the Park inventory. It is adjacent to the existing park and would help beautify Main Street and provide for more additional recreation opportunities.

Develop the recently acquired property into a Skate Park. The proposal is to develop a concrete skate area 65' x 130'. Ramps or concrete bowl designs are being considered. Estimated cost of the skate park is $37,000. Fencing will be donated.

Provide lighting to this parcel for safety and security. Estimated cost of providing lighting is $1,000.

Develop the other half of the old Lindquist parcel as a grass area with Volley Ball net, steel picnic table and a wooden train play structure. Estimated costs are $500, $500 and $500 respectively.

For pedestrian safety, a user activated pedestrian crossing signal will need to be installed. Estimated costs $3,500 each, or $7,000 total.

The Swimming Pool side of the Downtown Park will be developed with a complete Playground jungle gym/slide/swing set. A rubber mat, approximately 40' x 30' will need to be purchased. This community project is being lead by the Kettle Falls Lady Lions with donations and fund raising to match City & Grant dollars. The old swing set will be relocated. Approximate cost for Playground Set and rubber mat will be $20,000.

A Wading/Spray pool is proposed for this property as a community project of the Kettle Falls Rotary Club to match City & grant funds. The Water Park will include several features that younger children will enjoy. Several manufacturers have been contacted and the estimated price will be $50,000.

The Swimming Pool area has an existing pool house complete with restrooms. However, there is a clear need for a first aid station. It is proposed to build an 8' x 10' concrete structure attached to the existing facility to be used as a First Aid Station.

With all the activities of the proposed Water Park, it will be necessary to build an 8' x 150' concrete sidewalk to avoid turning the park grassy areas into a muddy path. Estimated costs to be approximately $7,000.

It is desired to provide 2 additional steel picnic tables to the park for parents to sit and watch their children play on the proposed playground equipment and water park features. Estimated costs @ $500 each to be $1,000 or $1,500 for total project.

Once the Water Park is being constructed, it may be necessary to move an existing light pole to a more convenient location for safety and security. Total project lighting costs will be approximately $1,000.

Additional landscaping may be necessary to help beautify the park. This can be completed with donated materials and labor by youth and/or civic organizations.

Additional improvements include conversion of the chlorination system from the existing gas chlorine system to a liquid chlorine system. This is a high priority because of safety and liability concerns expressed by the Washington State Department of Health, Tri-County Health District, and the City’s insurance provider. Design of the proposed Water Park may resolve this need and a central chlorination system be constructed. The cost of the conversion and the storage shed to contain is estimated to be between $1,500 and $2,000 and will completed in 2004. There is also strong community support for covering or enclosing the swimming pool to allow year-round use.

Happy Dell Park. The City leases, with option to buy, most of the land included in this park from the Kettle Falls Park Board, a private non-profit organization. The park includes a baseball diamond, covered barbecue and picnic area, restroom, concession stand and utility room, gravel play area, and double tennis courts with basketball hoops. In 1989 the City purchased the final portion of the property, a corner lot on US 395 and Juniper. Desired improvements determined by the Kettle Falls Park Committee include purchasing the land currently leased from the Kettle Falls Park Board, updating the restroom facilities, updating playground equipment, installation of a donated scoreboard, and improving water facilities for the tent camping area. The proposed acquisition/improvements will be further pursued and are slated for 2005-2006.

Gibson Field. The City and the Kettle Falls School District 212 jointly own this parcel. It is used by the school district as a baseball field. A building to house restrooms, concessions stand and utility room was completed in 1993.

Tripp’s Green Area. In 1993 Harvey Tripp donated this area to the City, which consists of one currently vacant lot in Kettle Crest Addition. This lot was donated to be the beginning of a pathway from Kettle Crest to 10th Avenue.
