The Park and Recreation Committee was formed during a public meeting that discussed the recreational opportunities in the Kettle Falls. This committee consisted of approximately a dozen individuals that are diverse in their area of expertise plus several of these individuals are area high school and junior high students.

Public involvement is a priority in this working committee. The Kettle Falls City Council and Planning Commission recognize the time and commitment that this citizen’s committee spent on forming this document that was written from community sentiments and ideas. This document clearly expresses that this community is dedicated in the growth and development of their local area and surrounding communities.

The Kettle Falls Parks Committee met on the following dates. Meetings were public and advertised in the Colville Statesman Examiner and in handbills included in utility bills, which include every household in Kettle Falls and surrounding area that receives water, sewer, or garbage service from the City of Kettle Falls.

December 3, 2003 – 8 Attendees. Initial kick-off meeting to discuss the future of Kettle Falls Parks.

January 7, 2004 – 7 Attendees. Visioning and needs assessment of existing parks.

January 21, 2004 – 7 Attendees. Continue needs assessment of existing parks.

February 4, 2004 – 10 Attendees. Continue needs assessment of existing parks.

February 18, 2004 – 9 Attendees. Outline presented of potential Parks Plan, specific park projects identified.

March 3, 2004 – 7 Attendees. Continue developing Parks Plan, specific park projects identified.

March 17, 2004 – 11 Attendees. Draft Parks Plan is prepared for Planning Commission review. Specific projects proposals researched with identified budgets.

April 7, 2004 – 5 Attendees. Detail project budgets.

April 12, 2004 – Kettle Falls Planning Commission public hearing to review the Kettle Falls Parks Plan.

April 21, 2004 – 12 Attendees. Parks Committee details projects and fund raising efforts.

April 22, 2004 – 8 Attendees. Parks Committee details projects and fund raising efforts.

April 27, 2004 – Kettle Falls City Council workshop to review Parks Plan. IAC grant application reviewed for submission.

May 4, 2004 – Kettle Falls City Council public hearing to review the Kettle Falls Parks Plan

May 18, 2004 – Kettle Falls City Council public hearing to review the Kettle Falls Park Plan and it was subsequently adopted by ordinance.

Meeting participants included local members or representatives from the School District, Rotary Club, Lady Lions, Retail merchants, Chamber of Commerce, and other groups or organizations.
