1. New services will be locked off until inspected by the CCS and it is determined that no hazard to the public water supply exists or that protection is provided by means of an approved backflow prevention assembly or other approved backflow preventer installed commensurate with the degree of hazard.

2. The City of Kettle Falls prohibits interconnection of private water supplies with the City’s water distribution system. Auxiliary water supplies (private wells, piped irrigation sources etc.) are a major cross-connection control hazard and, therefore, must be effectively isolated from the domestic water supply. The City of Kettle Falls’ cross-connection policies and requirements for consumers with private wells are as follows:

a. No backflow prevention is required if the source is verified to be permanently inactive and abandoned in accordance with the requirements of the Washington State Department of Ecology, or is physically and permanently disconnected from the plumbing served by the public water system.

b. If the well remains active and physically connected to the public water system, an approved double-check valve assembly is required at the service connection to provide protection against inadvertent interconnection of the supplies.
